| The Community Planning initiative in the state aims to bring social service agencies, ABE programs, employers, parenting organizations, and other organizations to the same table to look at ways to help learners meet their needs. CP is a process of identifying needs, finding existing assets, and exploring ways to create solutions for unmet needs. |

Community Planning Resources Published by SABES: [2002] The Community Planning Resource Guide is for people interested in learning more about creating and sustaining partnerships under the Massachusetts Adult Basic Education (ABE) Community Planning Initiative. Inside the guide you will find book reviews, references to print and online resources, personal narratives and advice from community planning practitioners working in ABE Community Planning Partnerships across the state. This guide was prepared in collaboration between SABES West and SABES Central community planning staff. | Community Needs & Assets Assessment "Guidelines For Writing A Comprehensive Assessment Of A Community's Needs And Assets As They Relate To Adult Basic Education, Family Literacy And Workforce Development" John Gaviglio of MISER (Massachusetts Institute for Social and Economic Research) has taken the guidelines for the Comprehensive Assessment of a Community's Needs and Assets and provided html links to the 'potential sources of data and information' listed by ACLS. There are two pages; one page relates to the needs in a community and the other to the assets. |
