Diversity Best Practices Project The diversity best practices project focused on what was going well in the field. What were programs doing that other programs could learn from? How could we focus on positive discussions about diversity when so often it is the negative or what people aren’t doing, that gets highlighted? This best practices report (PDF format) contains interviews with five programs that are successful in their diversity work with regards to staffing, curriculum and/or program development. An annotated bibliography (PDF format) of materials relating to issues of diversity and multiculturalism for ABE teachers and administrators is also available here. It contains annotations of books for use in the classroom as well as background information and theory for teachers and administrators. There is also a listing of videos, as well as a bibliography of materials on the topics available from SABES. To obtain a hard copy, please contact Michele at msedor@hcc.mass.edu. CHANGES PROJECT [1999] The Changes Project - a participatory action research project focused on the impact of welfare reform, immigration reform and the changing nature of work. This research was conducted by Alex Risley Schroeder and local ABE learners from the Center for New Americans, the HCC Mentor Program, the International Language Institute, the Read/Write/Now program and UM/Amherstís Labor/Management Workplace Education program. |
