GED at SABES West

In the 2002 - 2003 year, SABES West will be hosting various GED workshops. They will be announced on this website, in "The Pipeline" and on our listserv. Below is a summary of what we will be offering.

September and October: A "GED 2002" workshop for new or fairly new GED teachers.

October: A GED Teacher's Sharing Group so practitioners can see what others are doing, share resources and discuss struggles. This group will meet on a regular basis.

Other upcoming workshops (no dates yet): Using Visual materials on the GED exam, GED Math, GED Science, What are the areas that students are having the most trouble with and what can we do about it?

If you have a specific workshop idea or question about the GED, contact Michele Sedor at msedor@hcc.mass.edu.

The SABES West library has various GED preparation books for the GED 2002 exam that can be borrowed by programs. Contact Nan Walsh at nwalsh@hcc.mass.edu for more information.

Record Numbers of GED-Takers Tested in 2001

Numbers of adults taking the General Educational Development (GED) test in 2001 broke previous records as learners pushed to earn a GED in advance of changes in the test this year. About one million adults took one of the five parts of the GED, a nearly 32% increase in GED test taking. Folks taking the earlier version had to complete all parts in 2001 or start over with the new version this year. Also spiraling was the number of persons with disabilities requesting accommodation for the GED test and the number of candidates taking the Spanish language version. Click here to read more.
